Asociación Internacional de Gerontología y Geriatría tiene por objetivo es promover los más altos niveles de progreso de la investigación y la formación gerontológica en todo el mundo y de interactuar con otras organizaciones internacionales, las organizaciones intergubernamentales, y organizaciones no gubernamentales en la promoción de intereses gerontológica a nivel mundial y en nombre de sus miembros Asociaciones. La Asociación persigue estas actividades con el fin de promover la más alta calidad de vida y el bienestar de todas las personas, ya que la experiencia de envejecimiento en el individuo y la sociedad.
